Leica Microsystems launches LED-powered DM microscope

Leica Microsystems has introduced the DM1000 LED, the latest microscope for cytology, histopathology and other clinical laboratory applications.

This new version of the DM1000 includes long-lasting LED illumination, providing colour-neutral illumination that is "easy on the eyes".

The 4W LED illuminates for 100,000 operating hours, which works out at six hours a day for 50 years. According to Leica, LEDs also save time and money because lamp changes are rarely needed.

Furthermore, an optional, portable solar power supply is available for field-based applications when mains power cannot be accessed.

The flexible solar panel sends an electric current to rechargeable batteries built into the stand. When these are fully charged, the microscope operates independent of mains power for around eight hours.

Leica Microsystems claims to be one of the market leaders in fields including microscopy, imaging systems, confocal laser scanning microscopy, specimen preparation and medical equipment.
