Eli Lilly to present 76 cancer studies to Asco

Eli Lilly has announced that its cancer division, Lilly Oncology, is to present 76 studies at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Asco) over the first week of June.

The company will unveil the results of clinical trials involving a number of compounds at the event, including those for orally-administered and injectible treatments.

Major abstracts to be presented at the Asco conference include phase III clinical trial data for Alimta (pemetrexed for injection) as a treatment for non-small cell lung cancer, in addition to early phase results of the same compound as a treatment for head and neck cancer and at phase II as a treatment for small cell lung cancer.

Other key information to be revealed at the meeting will be phase II data of orally-administered compound enzastaurin as a non-small cell lung cancer treatment and phase III information assessing Gemzar as therapy for breast cancer.

Richard Gaynor, vice-president of cancer research and global oncology platform leader at Lilly, said: “This is an exciting time in cancer research as we are moving away from one-size fits all treatment.”

He added that the firm would be take the annual Asco meeting as an opportunity to demonstrate its dedication to discovering the appropriate compound at correct dosing for patients.

Last year at the annual meeting of Asco, Lilly presented data from 79 studies, with 11 of these being breast cancer studies.
