Eli Lilly promotes Deane to president of manufacturing

Eli Lilly has announced a change in its senior leadership, with the promotion of Frank Deane to the position of president of manufacturing. Dr Deane will replace Scott Canute in the role following his decision to take a leave of absence from the company.

Dr Deane joined the company in 1979 and has since held a number of manufacturing positions at a variety of sites belonging to the firm, being given responsibility for the company’s global operations relating to active pharmaceutical ingredients in 1997 and appointed vice-president of quality in 2001.

Mr Canute has elected to leave Lilly after six years of leading the company’s manufacturing business in order to take a personal development opportunity.

Sidney Taurel, chairman and chief executive officer at Lilly, said: “Frank brings over 28 years of manufacturing and quality experience to his new role.”

He added that during his previous employment by the firm, Dr Deane has played a key role in guaranteeing the quality of standards and systems worldwide across Lilly, with the company looking to continue utilising this experience in its development of new pharmaceutical products.

Earlier this month, Lilly announced the promotion of Anne Nobles to vice-president for compliance and enterprise risk management at the same time as the appointment of Alex M Azar as senior vice-president of corporate affairs and communications.
