PerkinElmer signs licensing agreement with Axxam SpA
PerkinElmer has signed a global licensing agreement with Axxam SpA to be the exclusive provider of its Photina photoprotein technology.
The agreement will see the companies provide a formal research programme for Photina GPCR and ion channel cell lines in high throughput screening and compound profiling.
PerkinElmer states that Photina technology is a luminescent cell-based assay platform "developed for screening important drug discovery targets".
Robert F Friel, president of PerkinElmer life and analytical sciences, commented: "This agreement strengthens our position as a leading supplier of GPCR screening solutions and continues our efforts to build the most comprehensive offering in cellular screening and drug discovery reagent technologies."
He added that the addition of the Photina platform allows PerkinElmer to support its biopharmaceutical customers with a "comprehensive solution for luminescence screening".
This will form part of its transition from traditional fluorescence assay platforms to more efficient, cost-effective luminescence platforms, he continued.
PerkinElmer recently announced a new range of ultra high-power LED for lighting applications through additions to its ACULED family of light solutions.
