GE Healthcare announces patient record agreement with IntrinsiQ

GE Healthcare has announced that it is to collaborate with provider of cancer care software products IntrinsiQ for the integration of patients’ oncology clinical information with their electronic medical record (EMR).

IntelliDose software from IntrinisiQ automates chemotherapy order entry to produce legible and electronically verified orders and reduce the risk of physician error.

This software will be interfaced with the Centricity EMR solution from GE Healthcare to provide a range of patient information, including nurse notes and records of drug administration.

IntrinsiQ and GE Healthcare will unveil this partnership agreement at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology being held in Chicago.

Stephen Gorman, vice-president and general manager of integrated IT solutions at GE Healthcare, said: “Merging yet another key piece of patient data within our Centricity EMR solution demonstrates our commitment to providing comprehensive clinical information systems for our providers and their patients.”

Chief executive officer of Westchester Medical Group Simeon Schwartz reports that previous methods of calculating chemotherapy treatments by hand could lead to human error and were inefficient.

In November 2006, GE Healthcare reported an extension to its electronic health record agreement with Intermountain Healthcare to include clinical knowledge management and clinical process content, in addition to the development of standardised vocabulary to aid the establishment of a system to enhance patient care.
