Johnson and Johnson reports on growth strategies

11th June 2007

At a meeting with its financial analysts last week, Johnson & Johnson has underlined its growth strategies for its pharmaceutical and consumer businesses, with the firm noting that the broad base of its healthcare operations is well positioned for future growth.

The company reported on a number of early-stage projects, noting the promotion of innovative work across all its business units, with these efforts based upon partnership working to make the best use of the resources and abilities found across all its segments.

Projects discussed at this meeting included a cancer treatment based on strengthening immune cells in patients’ bodies, a treatment for pigmentosa – which can lead to blindness – and a drug to prevent uncontrolled bleeding in injured patients.

Christine Poon, vice-chairman of the company, said: “We have the people, proprietary technology and capabilities of many diverse, entrepreneurial companies.

“This enables us to innovate at the intersections of our businesses.”

She added that this ability gives the firm an advantage against its competitors and makes it more than the sum of its constituent parts.

This meeting with financial analysts was hosted by Colleen Goggins, worldwide chairman of the consumer group and Joe Scodari, worldwide chairman of pharmaceuticals at the firm.
