Schering-Plough expands tech agreement with Kurve

Schering-Plough has announced that it has signed an expanded agreement with Kurve Technology, a developer of nasal drug delivery devices.

This new agreement gives Schering-Plough the ability to evaluate – with an option for retaining exclusive rights to – the Controlled Particle Dispersion (CPD) platform from Kurve Technology for use in single to multiple fields.

Containing six vital design facets that facilitate the modification of droplet characteristics, the CPD platform from Kurve Technology can be used to deliver any type of liquid drug irrespective of its molecule size, viscosity or surface tension.

This product can be used for the delivery of systemic, topical and nose-to-brain medications and vaccines, with negligible peripheral deposition.

Marc Giroux, chairman and chief executive officer of Kurve Technology, said: “We are extremely pleased with Schering-Plough’s continued and expanded interest in our nasal delivery technology platforms.”

He added that this partnership agreement marks the company’s progress in its aim of collaborating with the pharmaceutical industry for the development of novel intranasal drug and delivery systems.

In March 2007, Schering-Plough announced that Nasonex (mometasone furoate monohydragte), its nasal spray 50 mcg delivery product, was recognised by the Arthritis Foundation for its ease-of-use following independent laboratory testing.
