Applied Biosystems device used to characterise stem cells

Applied Biosystems’ 7900HT real-time PCR system has been used to characterise human stem cells in a new research project, it has emerged.

The International Stem Cell Initiative (ISCI) utilised the system as a means of establishing diverse characterisations of human cells suitable for laboratory studies.

And Applied Biosystems revealed it has developed the TaqMan Array Human Stem Cell Pluripotency Panel based on the findings of the research.

Lars Holmkvist, president of Applied Biosystems Europe, said: "Stem cells have shown enormous potential for improving human health."

"Applied Biosystems is fully committed to supporting our customers in their research in this emerging field," he added.

Mr Holmkvist claimed that the ISCI study should increase confidence among practitioners that stem cell research has "biological relevance".

The 7900HT real-time PCR system comes with robotic loading capable of increasing throughput beyond the rate offered by other devices, according to Applied Biosystems.
