Novartis takes part in cancer prevention meeting

Novartis has recently taken part in the Cancer Prevention Conference organised by the Arab Medical Association that took place from June 28th-30th 2007.

At the conference, the company restated its dedication to the prevention of breast cancer and its continued partnership working efforts to help control the effects of the condition worldwide.

Novartis Oncology, the company’s cancer segment, notes that it participates in this and similar events to emphasise its role as a leading provider of therapies in this field, commenting that its introduction of Femara and Zometa have provided “important and revolutionary” drugs to patients at risk of developing breast cancer.

Osama Breiwish, business unit head at Novartis Oncology, said: “The topic of breast cancer prevention is of exceedingly high importance, not only in the region, but throughout the world.”

He added that the company was pleased to be taking part at the Cancer Prevention Conference, with meetings such as this enabling the firm to cooperate with other companies in the fight to tackle breast cancer internationally.

In March 2006, Novartis reported that its orally-administered aromatase inhibitor Femara had been approved for use in Germany in post-menopausal women with hormone-sensitive early breast cancer following surgery to help prevent recurrence of the disease.
