Thermo Fisher Scientific urges switch away from bottles
Thermo Fisher Scientific has started a campaign to reduce the amount of bottled water consumed.
According to the firm’s water filtering subsidiary Nalgene Outdoor Products, empty bottles form a substantial amount of waste.
Meanwhile, the energy used in producing bottled water and transporting it to the point of sale could be reduced by filtering tapwater at home.
Efforts being undertaken as part of the campaign are being operated in association with water filter manufacturer Brita.
Together, the companies explain that the average Brita product filters 240 gallons of water a year for an average cost of 19 cents (9 pence) per day.
But this compares with a cost of almost five dollars daily to receive the same amount of water in bottled form.
And for each promotional bottle purchased from Nalgene Outdoor Products, a donation is to be made to a related charity.
Nalgene Outdoor Products was founded in 1949 and manufactured the first commercially-available plastic pipette holder, the company states.
Parent firm Thermo Fisher Scientific recently celebrated the distribution of its 500th iCAP 6000 ICP emission spectrometer to aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
