Thermo Fisher Scientific releases carbon ash monitor

Thermo Fisher Scientific has unveiled a new carbon ash monitor for improving the efficiency of combustion processes.

Users of the TEOM Series 4200 Carbon-In-Ash Monitor (CIAM) are promised feedback on the levels of carbon which remain unburned after a combustion process.

In this way, ash manufacturers are told they may decrease the quantity of carbon which remains and thus improve the quality of their product.

Michael Nemergut, marketing director for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Air Quality Instruments business, stresses the importance of the tool.

"Currently some coal-powered plants make large expenditures for fly ash disposal," he claims.

"By using the Series 4200 monitor to reduce fly ash carbon concentration, plant operators can realise a substantial increase in revenue fly ash sales."

He adds that the unit typically pays for itself in a matter of months through savings on ash disposal.

The device is frame-mounted for easy relocation, or can be fixed to a railing or support structure, the manufacturer advises.
