Grifols announces 11.4 per cent rise in revenue

Grifols has announced its financial figures for the first six months of the 2007 fiscal year, with the firm reporting an 11.4 per cent rise in revenues on the comparable period last year to 358 million euros (243.2 million pounds).

During the first half of the year, the company generated a net profit of 45.4 million euros, a rise of 183 per cent.

Gross margin rose from 41.1 per cent of sales last year to 44.1 of sales in 2007, with this rise attributed to the price stability of plasma and the rising price of the main plasma products sold by the company’s bioscience segment.

“The strategy undertaken by Grifols during recent years to create a vertically integrated business structure – in which plasma comes mainly from its own plasmapheresis centres – not only allows the company to control the principal cost, but also gives it access to raw materials with high levels of safety, assurance and quality,” the company reports.

It adds that – as a consequence of this strategy – a key short and medium-term goal of the firm is to boost the number of litres of plasma it produces through the expansion of existing collection centres and establishment of new sites.

In February 2007, Grifols announced a turnover of 648 million euros, an increase of 23.8 per cent over the previous year.
