Genzyme Diagnostics announces publication of kidney study results

Genzyme Diagnostics has announced that the results of the Dialysis Clinical Outcomes Revisited (DCOR) trial have been published in Kidney International.

The study, which involved more than 2,100 respondents, compared the difference in outcomes for patients receiving Renagel with those on calcium-based phosphate binders.

Conducted over three years, a clinically-meaningful benefit was associated with Renagel use for older patients.

In a pre-specified secondary analysis, those aged 65 or older attained a 23 per cent reduction in all-cause mortality compared to those of the same age receiving calcium-based phosphate binders – a statistically significant result.

President of Genzyme Renal John P Butler commented: "Genzyme is proud of the contribution that the DCOR study has made to the understanding of how phosphate binder choice can affect the outcomes of patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis."

It was recently announced that Genzyme’s second phase three trial of Mozobil had successfully met its primary and secondary endpoints.
