Applied Biosystems announces new laboratory information system

Applied Biosystems yesterday announced the launch of a new laboratory information management system (LIMS) called the SQL*LIMS Plug and Play Pharma Package, designed and validated especially for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

The company states that software-based LIMS solutions are used by companies to manage their procedures for drug development and manufacture.

Processes include tracking samples and raw materials as they enter and move through the laboratory systems and maintaining consistency in these operations are necessary to comply with regulations and ensuring that products remain reliable and safe, it adds.

John Bainbridge, general manager for LIMS business at Applied Biosystems, commented: "We’ve taken everything Applied Biosystems has learned about laboratory information management systems and have packaged it into a complete solution that significantly decreases the time and costs associated with LIMS deployments."

Earlier this month, the company announced an initiative to support the development of bioinformatics applications for next-generation DNA sequencing platforms.
