Boston Scientific announces new clinical sciences staff

Boston Scientific has announced the appointment of two new members to its clinical sciences team, with Keith Dawkins to serve as senior vice-president and associate chief medical officer and Takahiro Uchida to be a director in clinical research and medical director.

Dr Dawkins is an interventional cardiologist from Southampton University Hospital and a former president of the British Cardiovascular Society. He has previously worked as an adviser to the Department of Health and worked together with a number of regulatory bodies in the UK.

Having been awarded a medical degree from Fukushima Medical University and MS in epidemiology from the Havard School of Public Health, Dr Takahiro Uchida has previously served as an interventional cardiovascular device branch of the centre for devices and radiological health of the US Food and Drug Administration.

Donald S Baim, chief medical and scientific officer at Boston Scientific, said: “The addition of these two highly capable individuals significantly strengthens Boston Scientific’s clinical sciences’ capabilities and further enhances our ability to serve as the voice of the patient by providing the highest-level expert clinical input throughout the product life cycle of our current and future medical devices.”

He added that the expertise of Dr Uchida and Dr Dawkins will be vital in enabling the company to extend its leadership in the field of cardiovascular disease and other areas.

Last month, Boston Scientific announced the election of Ray Elliot as a new director of the company bringing the total number of members of the board to 15.
