Thermo Scientific organises food safety presentation in China

Thermo Scientific has hosted a workshop in Shanghai as part of Thermo Fisher Food Safety Month.

Held at the food inspection and quarantine technical centre in the city, the event attracted customers from regional Chinese inspection and quarantine bureaux and related fields.

Close cooperation with Chinese governmental customers is intended by the company to allow it to apply thermo-luminescence techniques to the irradiated food detection business, as well as play a positive role in establishing national and industrial standards and regulations in China.

"With the increasing international food trade, many countries require strict regulations on inspection and labelling of irradiated food," commented a spokesperson for Thermo Scientific.

"This issue is particularly of interest to Chinese businesses, which lead the world in exports of food-related products," the spokesperson continued, pointing out that Thermo Scientific’s thermo-luminescence (TL) is the one of most universal techniques in the detection of irradiated food.

The detection of irradiated food is based on the silicate minerals contained in foods such as herbs, spices, cereals, fruits and vegetables, with Thermo Scientific’s TL technology intended to boost food safety businesses in China.
