30th October 2007

Eli Lilly has announced the winners of its 2007 Lilly Reintegration Awards which recognise the efforts and achievements of individuals with severe mental illness and mental health professionals, with a special focus on work conducted to help mental health patients when they re-enter the community.

The judging panel for the awards is made up of mental health professionals and makes the awards based on the reach and extent of the programmes and achievements, with award winners receiving grants to continue their work.

In each category, the first-placed winner receives a $5,000 (2,436 pounds) grant, with the group or individual in second place given $2,500.

Deirdre Connelly, president of US operations at Lilly, said: “Each year we are delighted to recognize the Lilly Reintegration Award honorees as they play an integral part in assisting those with severe mental illness achieve their goals.”

This year’s winners included the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in the Treatment Team category, the San Luis Valley Mental Health Centre for Clinical Medicine and the Public Psychiatry Fellowship of Columbia University for Education, among others.

In May 2007, Lilly added a genetic privacy and protection policy for its employees to operate in conjunction with its existing policies against discrimination.
