PerkinElmer receives additional orders for Xenon flash technology

PerkinElmer has received additional production orders for mobile phones incorporating its xenon-based flash technology.

The xenon flash technology is now utilised by four of the five leading mobile phone manufacturers to enhance their high-end mobile phone cameras.

The health sciences and photonics technology company predicted that its revenue from this market segment would be in excess of $20 million.

The xenon flash enables 100 to 150 times faster shutter speeds, compared with an LED flash.

According to PerkinElmer, it is the preferred light source in "virtually all consumer and professional camera applications".

The company continued to state that the product enables cameras to take "clear crisp photos", even in low light conditions, due to its intense but short light charges.

It claims that as a result mobile phone manufacturers can significantly enhance the image quality and performance of camera phones.
