GE Healthcare launches vendor-independent education scheme

GE Healthcare has announced the launch of a vendor-independent educational initiative designed for technical and biomedical professionals to boost their knowledge of IT concepts for healthcare.

The company’s curriculum for Healthcare IT aims to identify core skills that are vital for the support and servicing of modern networked and integrated medical devices.

It claims that its initiative is unique in the industry, as it offers support to all members of the biomedical community, irrespective of the vendor they choose or the equipment they utilise.

The newest courses incorporated into the programme include Securing the Healthcare IT Environment and Wireless in the Healthcare IT Environment, which can both be taken after individuals complete the Essentials of Healthcare IT module.

Michael Reed, manager of the global education for clinical systems service at GE Healthcare, said: “Our vision is to build knowledge and competencies across the healthcare industry, which is why we took the core skills related to healthcare and incorporated them into a comprehensive programme suitable for any biomed.”

He added that those involved in the industry are aware of the importance of resolving equipment problems rapidly in order to save lives, with improved IT knowledge having a positive impact on patient care.

Earlier this month, the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists and Royal Philips Electronics launched a programme to extend healthcare education worldwide.
