‘Randox’s new biochip enables MIS assessment within three to six hours’

Randox has developed a new biochip to for early detection of myocardial infarction (MI) or a heart attack.

According to the international diagnostics company, the Cardiac Array biochip combines the "gold-standard" marker troponin with novel early makers such as FABP and enables an early assessment at three to six hours after a heart attack.

The biochip also allows multiple results to be obtained simultaneously from a single sample – this minimises biological variation and results in a "more rapid and accurate diagnosis".

During initial trials of the biochip, it was found to be 90 per cent sensitive for the diagnosis of MI as early as three hours following a coronary event.

It was shown to have a negative predictive value of 97 per cent – "making it a good rule-out marker".

"The Cardiac Array from Randox presents a valuable assessment tool for the diagnosis of MI in an Accident and Emergency setting," the company concluded.

This new innovation follows the development of Randox’s biochip screening tests to detect sulphonamide antibiotic drug residues and its bile acids test for obstetric cholestasis.
