Leica Microsystems introduces compact neurosurgical microscope

Leica Microsystems has designed a new "groundbreaking" compact neurosurgical microscope.

By utilising horizontal optics for the first time, the company has made its new Leica M720 OH5 so compact that surgeons naturally adopt a healthy sitting position when working.

Leica Microsystems added that it allows operations to be performed without arm, neck or back strain even if the patient is in an upright position.

It offers "a significant increase in working space with variable focus providing free access to the operating area, greater instrument manoeuvrability and an optimal view", the company continued.

The microscope also boasts a SpeedSpot feature, which allows it be focused with a simple hand movement rather than having to follow through the movement with an eyepiece.

Its Leica APO OptiChrome Optics and 300 Watt xenon illumination system give surgeons a "steady, clear and sharply focused" image for the duration of the procedure.
