Different payment methods ‘available for patients’

Patients who require dental work should consider all of the different payment options available, an expert has urged.

Chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation Dr Nigel Carter warned that some cash-strapped people are flying overseas in order to find treatment at a lower cost.

However, he suggested they instead look at the various payment options in Britain which could help them spread the cost, rather than risk overseas treatment.

Correcting poor quality dental work can be a costly process, Dr Carter commented and treatment in Britain may not be as expensive as is perceived.

“Many treatments will be available for much less than people might expect. Certainly the rates for treatment can vary from one dentist to another and it can be worth getting a second quote,” he added.

Last year, the British Dental Health Foundation issued a warning against travelling overseas for dental treatment, reporting an increase in the number of people who had experienced problems.
