Baxter reports sustainability achievements

Baxter has issued a statement highlighting a number of its recent achievements in the field of sustainability.

The firm drew attention to its recent recognition with the Shingo Prize for excellence in manufacturing at its Cartago site in Costa Rica.

It also noted its listing on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations rankings from Innovest Strategic Value Advisors and its place on the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list by Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine.

Furthermore, the company notes that its employees surpassed its target figures for employee volunteerism manhours, with Baxter recording a total of 176,000 personal and company-sponsored hours of volunteer work.

“Baxter was presented the first annual Corporate Citizen Award for Environmental Sustainability by the League of Women Voters of Illinois,” the company reports.

“The award, presented at the organisation’s annual State of the State luncheon on January 24th 2008, recognises excellence in advancing environmental sustainability.”

Baxter adds that it received this award for its efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and driving cleaner operations.

In April 2007, Baxter reported that it had purchased Green-e certified renewable energy certificates to the value 15.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity while commenting that corporations have a key role to play in meeting the challenge of tackling climate change.
