Medtronic announces sale of one million CGM sensors

Medical products company Medtronic has now sold one million of its continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) products, it announced.

CMS systems are used for the management of diabetes and can record a patient’s levels of glucose throughout the day and night. Some relay information to an insulin pump while others are integrated with this technology.

Medtronic said its one millionth item had been received by a sufferer of Type 1 diabetes who has used this type of therapy for two years.

Chris O’Connell, president of the company’s diabetes business, said the event also marks ten years since CGM systems were first introduced by Medtronic.

“This important milestone demonstrates our momentum and clear industry leadership in the exciting new field of continuous glucose monitoring,” he added.

Meanwhile, the company issued a press release last week to “salute” the World Health Organisation. It did so to mark the release of a fracture risk tool.
