Dental Protection boss ‘most influential’

The dental director of the Dental Protection has been voted the most influential person in the British dentistry sector.

In a poll conducted by online dentist resource Dentistry.co.uk, Kevin Lewis flagged up as the most powerful character for the third year in a row.

He has worked within the sector in a full-time general practice for two decades, specialising in preventive dentistry, the resource for dental professionals noted.

Then, after joining Dental Protection, Mr Lewis wrote a number of textbooks and published guidance on infection control, it continued.

“He is also a popular speaker, lecturing extensively all over the world on a variety of issues,” Dentistry.co.uk added.

Recently, Mr Lewis was interviewed by the Independent newspaper on the subject of the rising claims being made against dental professionals.

He told the publication that in 2006 alone, Dental Protection paid out £3 million in damages, adding that this was a 40 per cent rise on the amount paid out at the beginning of the millennium.
