Sigma-Aldrich partners with Sunset Molecular Discovery to expand gene search tool
Sigma-Aldrich has partnered with Sunset Molecular Discovery to expand upon its ‘Your Favourite Gene’ search tool.
In total, some 1,300 bioactive small molecules will be added to the gene-based search tool, which provides data on the functional relationship between bioactive small molecules and genes allowing researchers to easily identify which Sigma-Aldrich products are associated with their genes of interest.
"These new annotations include more than 3,900 total interactions between bioactive small molecules and their cognate proteins and help make our ‘Your Favourite Gene’ search tool an even more valuable resource for the life science community," David Smoller, president of Sigma-Aldrich’s Research Biotech business unit, told CNN money.
Under the terms of their agreement, Sigma-Aldrich and Sunset Molecular Discovery will work together to map Sigma-Aldrich’s bioactive small molecules to functionally related genes.
Meanwhile, in related news, Sigma-Aldrich and Sangamo BioSciences recently announced the publication of data demonstrating the use of Sangamo’s zinc finger DNA-binding protein nucleases (ZFNs(TM)) in a new approach for rapid generation of "knock-out" cell lines, important tools in research and therapeutic product development.
