Wyeth to expand manufacturing facility

Wyeth has announced plans to invest $96 million (48 million pounds) to expand an existing nutritional manufacturing facility.

Located in Tuas, Singapore, the expansion plans were announced during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by representatives from the company’s partners in the Singapore Economic Development Board and officials from the firm.

The site will be used to produce important Wyeth brands including formula and milk products for infants and toddlers, such as the Progress and Promise brands.

Expansion work will result in an increase in capacity by 50 per cent, while maintaining the highest quality and operational standards.

This work marks the final phase of a $500 million capital improvement plan from the company in the region, with previous projects including investment in the firm’s supply operations and global nutritional manufacturing.

Mark Larsen, president of nutritionals and Asia Pacific at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, said: “This investment reflects Wyeth’s 90-year heritage of scientific innovation and commitment to paediatric nutrition.”

He added that the expansion of this site will help the company fulfil its mission of giving children and infants access to the highest-quality products.

In February 2008, Wyeth announced a reshuffle in its finance division, with John C Kelly replacing Paul J Jones as vice-president and controller of the firm.
