Siemens Medical unveils mammography system

18th April 2008

A new breast screening system will make patients more comfortable and enhance and speed up the mammography process for operators and clinicians, its manufacturer claims.

Siemens Medical has given the world its first glimpse of the Mammomat Inspiration, which it claims is easy to operate and gives a better quality image.

It is the first full-field direct digital mammography system and was designed with feedback from healthcare professionals in mind.

The new design includes new compression technologies, paddle design and mood lighting, plus isocentric rotation of the X-ray tube and enhanced examination functionality. It can also examine more than 15 patients an hour.

Andrew Pattison, director of diagnostic ultrasound and women’s health, said: “Every stage of the development process incorporates the views and experiences of mammographers to ensure that our technical offering is ready to embrace the clinical and market challenges.”

Siemens Healthcare reported sales of 9.85 billion euros (7.87 billion pounds), orders of 10.27 billion euros and group profit of 1.32 billion euros in 2007.
