Siemens announces plans to cut hospital costs

A new scheme has been launched by Siemens and IBM that aims to reduce the costs associated with running community hospitals.

Siemens announced today that hospitals looking to take advantage of its Medseries4 system, will now be able to do so backed by IBM’s energy-efficient server technology.

The system, known as Power Server, will incorporate IBM’s BladeCenter technology, as well as offering Tivoli Storage Manager software and other storage solutions for both DS3000 and DS4000 IBM systems.

Initial cost analyses calculated savings of up to 25 per cent could be made by hospitals choosing to install the system and Marilyn Marchant, vice-president of foundation enterprise systems at Siemens, states the initiative is part of a number of successful efforts by the two companies.

“As business partners whose healthcare-industry collaboration goes back 30 years, we are confident that this collaboration will drive outcomes that improve our customers’ bottom lines,” she said.

Last month, IBM and Siemens were enlisted to assist with the modernisation of the German Federal Armed Forces’ Herkules information system, defenseindustrydaily.com reports.
