UniChem backs community pharmacy efforts

15th May 2008

Pharmaceutical wholesaler and distributor UniChem has shown its support of a local project aimed at tackling high blood pressure.

For the past three years, the Kingston Rotary Club in Surrey has been hosting a Blood Pressure Measuring Day – and UniChem has helped out by providing relevant services.

The Stroke Association was also involved in the scheme, which UniChem has explained it hopes will raise awareness of the importance of measuring blood pressure regularly not only in Surrey but across England and the UK.

Meera Sharma, a local pharmacist, said: “There is definitely demand from the public for accessible advice and services such as blood pressure testing and … UniChem hopes that consumers will be better aware of exactly what their community pharmacy can offer.”

According to the Stroke Association, close to 150,000 people suffer stokes each year in the UK and the condition tends to have a more severe disabling effect than any other medical problem.
