NPA establishes pharmacy supply chain forum

19th May 2008

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has brought together members of the pharmacy IT supply chain to allow issues and concerns to be raised with regard to implementing community pharmacy.

James Salmon, NPA head of IT, explains that concerns regarding IT are now moving up the pharmacy agenda, adding that it is correct that they should do so.

“IT will soon be business critical for our members with a significant impact on practice. Our work is entirely focused on making sure the implementation of IT benefits community pharmacy,” he adds.

Gareth Jones, NPA NHS liaison manager, adds that the aspirations for community pharmacy will be able to be turned into reality only if an appropriate infrastructure network is in place.

In recent days, the NPA called in the chairs of all local council health overview and scrutiny committees in England to ask them to ensure that sufficient consultation takes place with regard to the development of GP-led health centres.
