Philips and Skytron to collaborate on hybrid surgical rooms

Royal Philips Electronics has signed a collaboration agreement with Skytron for the delivery of hybrid operating rooms designed for minimally-invasive cardiovascular surgical procedures.

The rooms will combine surgery room equipment from Skytron with cardiovascular X-ray systems from Philips to facilitate one-room treatment of cardiovascular patients.

It is hoped the installation of hybrid rooms will offer clinical staff a more intuitive and tailored environment that can optimise workflow and reduce planning and installing time.

As well as interventional X-ray equipment, Philips will supply the rooms with specialised imaging tables.

David M Mehney, president and chief executive officer of Skytron, said: “The hybrid room solution from Skytron and Philips combines excellent medical equipment and information solutions, together with our experience in delivering turnkey hybrid operating rooms.”

He added that the delivery of a coordinated and well-planned design would give healthcare providers flexible solutions at their fingertips.

In April 2007, Philips announced a collaboration agreement with Volcano to facilitate compatibility between the Philips Allura Xper FD systems and Volcano s5 suite of intravascular ultrasound systems.
