Millipore award $150k grant

Millipore Corporation has awarded a grant to a scientist for her stem cell research.

The life science provider granted Dr Jeanne Loring, of the Scripps Research Institute of California, $150,000 (£75,000) to support her investigation into human pluripotent stem cells.

Martin Madaus, the firm’s chairman and chief executive, said he was pleased to offer the grant to Dr Loring who demonstrates the "ground breaking" nature of the award through her extensive work in the field.

"Through this grant, we are able to support innovative stem cell research projects that we believe may be the key to solving a number of human health issues," he added.

Dr Loring is studying gene-regulating molecules known as microRNAs in relation to the ability of stem cells to renew and develop diverse cell types.

With roots tracing back to 1954, Millipore focuses on providing technologies, tools and services for the bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing markets.
