Genzyme seeks approval to market Mozobil
Genzyme has revealed that it is seeking approval from relevant authorities to begin marketing its Mozobil product in the Europe and the US.
It is anticipated that the pharmaceutical firm will be allowed to start supplying its product – designed to boost mobilisation of hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow into the blood stream – in Europe in the early part of next year.
The drug is aimed at use by medical professionals trying to gather hematopoitic stem cells in order to transplant them into patients suffering from specific cancers, and marketing applications to 60 other countries are expected to go ahead next year.
Mark Goldberg, senior vice president of clinical research at Genzyme, said: “There is a lot of excitement among treating physicians about Mozobil.
“The product has great potential to meet an important, unmet medical need and has numerous potential benefits for patients.”
With a workforce numbering more than 10,000 people, Genzyme counts itself as one of the world’s foremost biotechnology businesses.
