Thermo hooks up with Genedata

14th July 2008

Thermo Fisher Scientific is integrating its mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation with the Genedata Expressionist to accelerate MS-based metabolomics research.

According to the firm, the link-up will enable the efficient processing and analysis of large volumes of high-quality MS data to enable researchers to process hundreds of gigabytes of data simultaneously.

It believes the capability will help scientists classify samples and identify metabolic profiles related to important biological phenotypes.

Dr Rohan Thakur, director of marketing for small molecule solutions and life sciences MS, said the firm’s instrumentation is "ideally suited" for metabolomics applications.

"The unmatched data quality resulting from high-resolution and accurate mass, coupled with the data processing power of Genedata Expressionist, will serve to simplify the search for answers in a fundamentally complex experiment," he added.

Dr Othmar Pfannes, chief executive of Genedata, said he was delighted to be working with Thermo Scientific.

Thermo was recently awarded two gongs at the Microsoft 2008 Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Innovation Awards.
