Thermo Scientific reveals mass spectrometry success

Thermo Fisher Scientific has revealed the success of its liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) solution.

Representatives for the firm issued the development at the clinical research lab of Ameritox, a forensic and specialty toxicology laboratory services provider.

According to the latter, implementing the advanced LC-MS/MS method has enabled it to reduce the amount of time it spends on sample preparation and increased its mass spectrometry throughput for forensic and specialty toxicology assessments.

"With the assistance of the Thermo Fisher Scientific field services staff, we have successfully transferred two high-volume confirmations to LC-MS/MS," remarked Dr James Bourland, laboratory director for Ameritox.

"As a result, we have realised efficiencies by eliminating extractions and reducing the analysis time and turnaround time," he added, noting that the quality and reliability of the LC-MS/MS data is "superior" to the organisation’s previous method.

Thermo Scientific’s TurboFlow technology uses turbulent flow chromatography to separate analytes from biological matrices prior to MS/MS analysis.

Jeff Zonderman, director LC-MS clinical and toxicology at Thermo Fisher Scientific, concluded that the benefits derived from the Aria TLX-4 multiplexing system, powered by TurboFlow technology, "set the firm apart" in the marketplace.
