Sanofi-Aventis hands green award to UK factory

6th August 2008

Sanofi-Aventis, the global pharmacy product supplier, has recognised a factory in the UK for its recent environmentally-friendly activities.

The Fawdon manufacturing site has been given a gold prize by the panel of judges assembled as part of the Sanofi-Aventis 2008 Climate Change Awards.

Various energy conservation efforts have been made at the facility as part of a Comprehensive Energy Management Programme, which Sanofi-Aventis cites as a significant part of its plan to reduce the company’s overall carbon footprint.

Bob Dungworth, director of operations at Fawdon, said: “We’ve reduced our carbon footprint by 2250 tons a year – that’s the same amount of CO2 that’s absorbed by 225,000 trees.

“The gold award is recognition of the priority Fawdon gives to both efficiency and green issues.”

Sanofi-Aventis claims to have a number of products in its pharmacy range that are worldwide leaders in their class, while the company currently has an 18,000 strong research and development workforce.
