Thermo Fisher Scientific teams with University Health Network

Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Biomarker Research Initiative in Mass Spectrometry (Brims) has teamed with the University Health Network in Toronto to explore new areas of biomarker research.

According to a report for azom.com, the project will see the academic institution utilising Thermo Fisher’s mass spectrometers for proteomics research, in the hope of making potentially life saving discoveries.

Dr Eleftherios Diamandis will work with the company’s LTQ Orbitrap and Thermo Scientific Quantum Ultra mass spectrometry systems to search for biomarker proteins in the fluids of cancer cell lines.

Marc Casper, chief operating officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, told the news provider: "Dr Diamandis and his team believe they can make a difference in the outcome of cancer patients within the next five years, and we’re honoured to play a part in unlocking that discovery."

In related news, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Sage-N Research recently announced the latest offering from their five-year partnership, a proteomics software platform designed specifically for the Enterprise Linux market.
