Recordati issues call for international prize nominees

Recordati has announced that the Arrigo Recordati International Prize for Scientific Research has issued its call for nominations.

The winner of the fifth edition of the award – given once every two years – will win 100,000 euros (81,000 pounds).

Every year, the prize is awarded to a distinguished scientist to recognise their dedication and accomplishments in cardiology, with the prize for 2009 set to be given to an individual who has made a name for themseleves in innovation and advances in imaging diagnostics in heart disease.

The award was established in 2000 in memory of Arrigo Recordati, the Italian pharmaceutical entrepreneur.

Giovanni Recordati, chairman and chief executive officer of Recordati, said: The Arrigo Recordati International Prize for Scientific Research was established to carry on my father’s legacy and to inspire scientists and researchers to make important discoveries benefiting people worldwide.”

Over 200 international societies and bodies specialising in cardiology and internal medicine are being invited to nominate candidates.

The prize is open to scientists of all nationalities to scientists who are not affiliated with a pharmaceutical company and work in institutional settings.

Last month, Recordati announced its financial figures for the first half of the 2008 fiscal year, with the company reporting consolidated revenues of 384.2 million euros.
