Oxford Instruments awarded health and safety standard

Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology (OIPT) has been awarded the BS OHAS 18001 standard for meeting the requirements for "establishing, implementing and operating an Occupational Health and Safety Management System", the company has announced.

The achievement was confirmed by Norway-based certification body Det Norske Veritas, an independent organisation that promotes the protection of life, property and the environment in industry.

It bestowed the BS OHSAS 18001 standard for OIPT’s occupational health and safety system, a risk management framework that allows the firm to consistently identify and manage its operational hazards in order to reduce accidents and continually improve its performance by meeting health and safety legislation.

OIPT health, safety and facilities manager Sean Stephenson said: "Achieving this standard has recognised OIPT’s continual dedication to the safety and welfare of its employees and customers – and to providing a safer working environment."

Headquartered in Yatton, Bristol, OIPT develops process solutions for the micro and nanometre engineering of materials for use in semiconductors, optoelectronics and high-quality optical coatings. Its core technologies include nanoscale growth systems, atomic layer disposition and plasma etch and deposition.
