Cyprotex appoints new chairman

11th September 2008

Cyprotex has confirmed the appointment of Steve Harris as its new non-executive chairman replacing Nikolas Sofronis, who has stepped down to become non-executive director of the drug discovery services and information group.

Mr Harris has experience of working at a number of public and private firms within the life sciences sector, including stints with drug delivery company SkyPharma, cancer vaccine firm Northwest Biotherapeutics and manufacturer GeneMedix.

He has also served as president of the Proprietary Association of Australia and as chairman of the National Council of Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Industries of Australia.

In addition, Mr Harris has been a member of the board of the World Federation of Proprietary Medicine Manufacturers for two years.

Commenting on the appointment, Cyprotex chief executive officer Dr Anthony Baxter said Mr Harris offers "valued expertise" in areas such as business development, licensing and fundraising in the international sector.

"Steve will also play a key role in helping Cyprotex recognise the value of its technologies and market position, while helping to shape its evolution in the world of drug discovery and development services," he added.

Cyprotex is based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The firm is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
