Scottish Biomedical appoints Johnston as non-exec director

Scottish Biomedical has announced the appointment of Alan Johnston as a non-executive director.

The drug discovery services company, which is based at the West of Scotland Science Park in Glasgow, confirmed in a statement that it has recruited Mr Johnston, who has over 32 years’ experience in the biomedical field.

He has previously worked on the development of new medicines at Inveresk Research, now Charles River Laboratories, in Edinburgh. His roles included practical research, operations management and a ten-year stint as commercial director, the company said.

In this last role, he led a team responsible for bringing in research contracts worth around £75 million – 80 per cent of which were from overseas, it added.

Mr Johnston is also a Chartered Scientist who holds fellowships from both the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Biology.

Established in 1994, Scottish Biomedical works to find and develop new drug candidates. It specialises in areas including ethical tissue acquisition, molecular biology, protein technology, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology.
