Applied Biosystems selected by FDA

Applied Biosystems has supplied the US Food and Drink Administration (FDA) with seven 4000 QTRAP Systems for the analysis of pesticides in the country’s food supply.

They are to be deployed at FDA field offices in Arkansas, California, Kansas, New York, Washington, Georgia and Maryland.

According to the company, the 4000 QTRAP System is a specialised mass spectrometer which integrates qualitative and quantitative analysis by combining triple, quadrupole and linear trap capabilities on the same platform.

Laura Lauman, president for Applied Biosystems’ proteomics and small molecule division, states the firm is looking forward to working with the FDA to help ensure the safety of the USA’s food supply.

"The government’s efforts to increase food safety are directly impacted by the accuracy and reproducibility of the scientific information used to conduct the critical analysis that determines whether food is contaminated and a threat to the health of the general public," she adds.

In recent days, Applied Biosystems and Invitrogen announced the divisional structure and executive leadership team for the combination of the two firms.
