Reckitt Benckiser ‘part of climate change business group’

Pharmaceutical company Reckitt Benckiser has announced it is part of a new business grouping which is calling for cross-party action on climate change in the UK.

The firm said it is a member of the Prince of Wales’s UK Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change (UK CLG) and as such wrote to the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties last month.

Included in the letters were a call for a “transformational change” across the whole economy in order for the country to meet the threat of climate change.

The letters state: “[While] global economic slowdown may cause some to question whether the UK can afford to act so boldly … action cannot be delayed.”

It added decisive action on this issue will in fact stimulate job creation and other economic activity.

Furthermore, it stated significant investment in major infrastructure projects would be required to attain annual reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, with incremental change being inadequate for this goal.

Other members of UK CLG include Shell, Tesco, LloydsTSB, Centrica, B&Q and Vodafone.

In July 2008, Reckit Benckiser announced its financial results for the first half of the current fiscal year.

During the period, the company generated revenues of 3,074 million pounds for the period, a year-on-year rise of 20 per cent.
