3M launches flu detection test in US

3M, using technology from Ramp, has officially launched a rapid detection test for influenza.

Branded as the 3M Rapid Detection Flu A+B Test, it provides objective and reliable electronic results in around 15 minutes, for use in hospitals and doctors’ laboratories,

According to a statement from Response Medical Corporation – maker of the Ramp technology – a clinical study has shown the new test to be more sensitive the detection of influenza A and B than the leading competitor used in hospitals.

S Wayne Kay, chief executive officer at Response Medical, said: "The 3M Rapid Detection Flu A+B Test, powered by the Ramp technology, is the first major clinical test to be launched by a partner in the United States."

It is additional proof of "the broad platform" of the company’s technology which has been developed to meet the market needs of it partners, which include 3M and Roche, he continued.
