7th November 2008

3M has come to a mutual settlement with Illinois Tool Works regarding patent infringement litigation issues, it has been announced.

The company brought litigation against Illinois Tool Works relating to a patent, owned by 3M, covering its paint preparation system products.

Following the suit, which was brought to the US district court for the district of Minnesota in June 2006, Illinois Tool Works has "acknowledged the validity and enforceability of 3M’s patent rights and has taken a license under 3M patents".

While the specific details of the agreement have been kept confidential, it was revealed that 3M has consented to supply a portion of Illinois Tool Work’s DeKups system.
