Daiichi Sankyo to announce studies’ results

3rd December 2008

Daiichi Sankyo has said results of three studies of Oral Factor Xa inhibitor will be announced at a meeting.

The phase II trial findings of the company’s investigational molecule DU-176b are to be presented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology – held from December 6th to the 9th.

The first research – a randomised, multicentre, parallel group and multinational study – evaluated the safety of DU-176b, in comparison with Warfarin, in subjects with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

A randomised, multi-dose efficacy, double-blind and safety and biomarker revision of the Oral Factor Xa inhibitor – in contrast to placebo – formed the second experiments in order to assess its prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients who have had a total knee arthroplasty.

Thirdly, scientists conducted an open label randomised non-treatment and active controlled study to find the coagulation and platelets response in four groups of elderly and health subjects.

Last month, Daiichi-Sankyo announced the first presentation of research into paediatric patients.

The study saw the supporting of the use of colesevelam HCI in subjects with heterozygous familial hypercholstrolemia (heFH).

Founded in Japan, Sankyo launched the digestive enzyme Taka-Diastase in 1894, before then joining with Daiichi Pharmaceuticals in 2005.
