Colgate Total toothpaste has received the first Seal of Acceptance, following the company’s help in reducing gingivitis and the progression of periodontitis.
Presented by The International Academy of Periodontology (IAP), the award is part of an attempt to raise awareness of periodontics.
Dr Daniel Etienne, president of the organisation, said he was “very proud” to give the first IAP Seal of Acceptance to Colgate Total.
He added: “We have launched the IAP Seal of Acceptance as a means to recognise dental products that offer optimal benefits and to promote periodontal health among consumers and dental professionals worldwide.”
To be considered for the prize, companies must voluntarily submit over the counter products for consideration, which are then reviewed by a global IAP committee of experts.
Last month, Barrons said Colgate-Palmolive investors concerned sales will slow in the current economic climate – as a stronger dollar eats away at profits – have sent the company’s shares down by more than 22 per cent.
Established in 1806 as a soap and candle business in New York, US, the company placed its first newspaper advertisement in 1817.
Today, Colgate has four core businesses including oral care, personal care, home care and pet nutrition.
