3M licenses technology from Cambridge Consultants

3M’s drug delivery systems division has announced the signing of an exclusive technology license and purchase agreement with Cambridge Consultants.

The move, for the latter’s Conix Dry Powder Inahler technology platform, is set to add to the company’s portfolio of related products.

Also known as reverse-flow cyclone technology, it includes a variety of inhaler types which range from a single dose device – suitable for immunisations – to a multi-unit dose suitable for therapies for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

James Vaughan, vice-president of the subsidiary, said: “This new technology platform enhances 3M’s capability to provide partner pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with innovative drug delivery solutions.”

He added the company believes the Conix tools will add to the “breadth of our unique inhalation ? portfolio” and enables “new and exciting drug delivery alternatives”.

Last month, 3M said it was to acquire the Futuro health supports and compression hosiery product line from Beiersdorf.

Speaking at the time, Dr Gabi Sabongi, vice-president of consumer health care, new business ventures and research and development at 3M consumer and office business, said the addition of Futuro will “broaden” the company’s channels for consumer products.
