Bayer to launch herbicide-intolerance technology in the new year
Bayer CropScience has announced its intention to launch its herbicide-intolerance technology for soya beans in the US next year.
The introduction of the technology – called LibertyLink was described as an "important milestone" for the division by Dr Rudiger Scheitza, member of the board of management of Bayer CropScience and head of global portfolio management, following its launch at the Soybean Seed Research Conference in Chicago.
LibertyLink soya bean seeds will be available for around 40,000 hectares in 2009 and are "the only non-selective alternative to glyphosate-tolerant systems", De Scheitza added.
The beans have been fully approved for use in cultivation, food and feeds in the US and Canada, while import approvals have been agreed in important export markets including China and the European Union.
